THELOVEHUB x Fringe! 2023

We're back! We're freakin' back!
Fifth-year bumper edition!

Fringe! Film Festival and The Love Tank come from the same roots: both conceived at kitchen-tables in east London; both developed by kick-ass queer activists wanting to make the world a better place; and both run by sassy teams that know how to pull together stunning events.

In 2023, we're thrilled to be celebrating the fifth-year of our beautiful love-child - The Love Hub. We're straddling, legs-akimbo, wide across Bethnal Green Road - one stiletto shoe in Fringe's main hub at Rich Mix, one knee-high-Doc-Martin deep in the Common Press basement.

In our biggest Love Hub menu to date, we're adding in four midweek online live events for folks who can't get to our weekend of in-person activity.

Join us for 21 FREE events - sofa chats, workshops, and panels.

  • Demystifying Steroids

    MON 18 SEPTEMBER 2023, AT 7PM
    INTERACTIVE PANEL, ONLINE, FREE

Lots of people are using anabolic steroids to help them try and achieve their goals in the gym. But even though steroids are widespread there are very few opportunities to talk openly about them. This secrecy means lots of people who aren’t using steroids - whether or not they are curious about using them - might have questions about them (the answers to which might also help them make better sense of their own body image and exercise goals).

This session is a gentle walk through the basics of anabolic steroids: how they work, how to decide whether you want to take them, what the risks are, and how to use them as safely as possible.

  • Keeping Things Professional: Discussing Sex Work and Consent

    TUE 19 SEPTEMBER 2023, AT 7PM
    INTERACTIVE PANEL, ONLINE, FREE

Whether playing alone on cam, filming porn for OnlyFans, or having sex with clients in-person, sex workers have to constantly navigate how to maintain professional boundaries and ensure consent. This isn't always straightforward when there is money on the line - especially in the absence of an HR department, support structures, or anything like an official guide to best practice to keep sex workers safe.

This panel brings together sex workers (past and present) to reflect on their own experiences and offer advice about how sex workers might navigate consent and boundaries at work - wherever their workplace is.

  • What MPOX teaches us about queer sex

    WED 20 SEPTEMBER 2023, AT 7PM

Mpox is more than a virus; it's a story about queer sex and the health of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Join us to learn what the outbreak in gay, bi and queer men who have sex with men tells us about sexual health in our community today. With lessons from HIV, parallels with the 80s and a look at sexual health inequities.

    In partnership with QueerAF.

  • That’s dead gay, that is

    THU 21 SEPTEMBER 2023, AT 7PM
    INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP, ONLINE, FREE

Talking about death and dying is never easy. It’s also something we don’t talk about as much as we should.

This workshop will look at aspects of the queer experience in the context of our mortality. Do queer people die differently? Do we need different end of life care? What happens (to us and our loved ones) after we die?

Join Joe and the Love Tank crew in this candid and sensitive exploration of what it means to be queer and mortal.

In the U.K., an estimated 40% of men experience negative feelings - sometimes debilitating - about their own body image. Queer men are especially likely to suffer from this - some of our relationships to our bodies have been shaped by our relationship to our sexuality or gender or by things we see idealised in our communities.
